The Flotsam Kickstarter is live!
Flotsam is by Joshua Fox, co-designer of Lovecraftesque, and it’s about outcasts, renegades, and misfits living in the belly of a space station, in the shadow of a more prosperous society. I interviewed Josh about the project for The Gauntlet Podcast, and it seems like he is doing a lot of really cool things with Powered by the Apocalypse, particularly challenging a lot of the assumptions that underly the system (a favorite topic of mine lately). That episode will be out next week, but in the meantime, check out the campaign.

Is this a Dream Askew hack, or something else entirely?

Backed!
Backed!
Backed, purely on the back of the awesome work Josh & Becky did on Lovecraftesque!

Jason Tocci It is strongly influenced by Dream Askew. In fact, I remember a convo Richard Rogers and I had with Josh a few years ago on email about some of the things Dream Askew is doing. Josh has been thinking about this for a long time, and I’m excited to see what he does with it.

Jason Cordova Awesome, thanks!

Jason Tocci it’s a definite evolution of Dream Askew, which is to say that it has a lot of Dream Askew DNA in it, but is structurally different.

Kind of sounds like the Doctor Who episode “The Beast Below”.

Looked at it & backed it. I liked Lovecraftesque, and I like the idea of playing outcasts on a space station.

This is like that episode of Babylon 5 that focuses on what the “NPC’s” go through in an off-arc episode. Can’t remember what the title was or even the season, all I remember is thinking, “huh, that’s cool.”

Michael Moch: That is exactly what I was thinking about! 🙂

Michael Moch the one with the janitors during an attempted assault on the station?

Tim Osburn yup!

Michael Moch a fun episode, and one such that puts B5 among the top of the Sci-fi food chain. It’s rare that a series does that for some one-off characters and come away so entertaining. (Star Trek: TNG did a similar with “Lower Decks” I think it was called. 4 Ensigns going about their day.
