Anyone out there played City of Mist and have any opinions on it?

Anyone out there played City of Mist and have any opinions on it? I understand it’s built off of the PBtA architecture, but has significant differences like Blades in the Dark or Happiest Apocalypse on Earth.

Just trying to decide whether I want to splurge while it’s on sale, and thought I’d check if anyone here has any insights (pro or con) as to how it actually plays.

  1. I read an early copy, and it seems to use the variable success of PbtA. Instead of stats it uses a system of tags which work like aspects from Fate. When you roll you roll+tags justifying if tags are relevant based on the action.

I’d love to here thoughts from someone who’s played it.

  3. Thanks, Lowell Francis I should have known you’d have been all over this – don’t know why I didn’t just go right to your blog.

  5. I play it a lot. It is pretty good if you want a very energetic, very mystery based PbtA with a look of nice tricks.

It stands out in the versatile way it handles mythology and super heroes; it really shines in cinematic character progression that is some of the best character advancement in PbtA.

Cons is that if you do not want to have a mystery game, CotM has little to offer without some heavy adaptation.

It holds a special place in my heart because I think I can use it to run games on my Heroes of the Republic IP.
