Hey, I did a thing!
I found this gaming podcast, High Shelf Gaming, and I listened to a few episodes. The podcast talks about cons, True Dungeon, and women in gaming.
When they mentioned gaming with Lego, I posted to their facebook page.
We discussed a couple of Lego games (BrickQuest and Mobile Frame Zero).
Below are the links to the episode.
One person made a meme of something I said when I was asked what games I currently play. 🙂

I’ll be running BrickQuest at BrickFiesta in San Antonio July 5th – 8th, so send me a message if you are interested!

What is ‘True Dungeon’?
What is ‘True Dungeon’?

True Dungeon is an event that is at a few cons (GenCon, Origins, PAX South, etc.). It’s basically an interactive haunted house. Another way to describe it is a seven room escape room that is fantasy based.
It’s awesome and lots of fun!

Fraser Simons I believe it is a life size Dungeon that you play through, kind of like a golf course (but it is in a hotel hosting a con).

Ah, neat; thanks!

What!?
What!?
I gotta check this stuff out! Lego + RPG is magic. Here’s my Lego Star Frontiers game I used to run: youtube.com – Distress on LL928 – 2015.07.23

Finally was able to listen in. Cool stuff; I definitely went through my phase of getting some stuff on BrickLink. I get most of my things through thrift stores, which means I sort of work with what I got (but I do have a lot). Looks like I wrote a post about mini-figs and micro-figs and Lego in RPGs a while back in 2015, but never got around to continuing about it. I did make more games though. My first was a Lego dungeon-crawl (2014), then a Lego Star Frontiers game (per post above, in 2015), and then a Lego Fallout Shelter game (2016), all of which I’ve run at many cons many times. Keep spreading the good word!

Tomer Gurantz The blog post is great!
I also went and bought a ton of microfigs, but I saw two issues with using them in RPGs.
Many gamers like to configure their characters, and microfigs don’t really allow that.
However, the bigger problem is that there are few women in microfig form. There is a princess, an angry warrior woman, and I think there was a Hoth Princess Leia from the Star Wars Lego game that only came out in Europe.
That said, I did exactly the same as you: paired micro figs with similar minifigs that could be customized, and where there are more women. 🙂
Which cons do you run your games?
It would be incentive for me to attend, if possible.
I’m in Texas, so I only run at BrickFiesta, the only Texas Lego fan con.

steven watkins Oh nice! Yah, the micro-mini fig paring works in some cases. It helped that in my Star Frontiers game you played various races, so the male/female divide was mostly non-visual.
As far as game conventions, you can get a sense of which ones also by looking at the blog, cause I journal them 🙂 These the recent ones: Strategicon (3x / year in LA; always go), Big Bad Con (SF bay area; always go), GoPlayNW (Seattle; go occasionally), Newmexicon (Albuquerque; went once, plan to again), Pinecon (LA area camp-style mini-con).
Definitely keep in touch if you are coming out to any of these West Coast game cons!
