Hey y’all, I’m about to run my first game of THE VEIL soon for a group. It isn’t my first PBTA (mostly DW) or roll20 game but I was wondering if anyone had any tips they wish they’d heard when they ran it.
Edit addition: also using a google doc for touchstones, world/group notes, and the realization we want way too much synthwave
I’ve been using roll20 for a couple years and I just discovered the additional screens option at the top! It changed how I ran, completely! I could set up images and maps to appear when I wanted, almost to the point of animation. You may know this (everyone might) because it’s probably written somewhere in the copy for the site and I’m all like, ‘reading’s for nerds’ until I learn all the cool stuff reading can do.

I’m mostly commenting to see what other people say but as far as audio goes: you can listen to songs for the playbooks https://ygmitchell.bandcamp.com/album/the-veil-cascade-double-album
I also really like this loop for virtual reality http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/140327/Pro-RPG-Audio-Virtual-Reality

Hey, Hannah! Thanks for picking it up, hope you enjoy it. I’m probably not the best person to answer your question but I added more language around creating the setting because people mostly were asking about that in the community. My advice is to discuss tone and what kind of fiction you’re all going for and then select the playbooks you see reinforcing that aim.
A trap people fall into sometimes is that since the playbooks are there to help construct your fiction and are pretty disparate, people sometimes choose playbooks that can conflict with the tone they’re going for. Where all of DWs playbooks aim at doing one thing, The Veil’s are all ingredients and act as world building tools to get a unique emulation of cyberpunk each time. All of them have different things to say about the genre.

Fraser Simons oh wow thank you so much! I’ll be sure to keep an eye out during selection. I know that’s happened in my DW game before with wildly conflicting tonal custom playbooks people used and I hadn’t restricted any because of tone but only because I wasn’t sure how to create stories around them.
Very excited to play it and also HTP as it comes out (2 of us are backing)!

Thanks a lot for the support! Yeah I could see that happening with custom classes in DW, similar problem so you should be fine then 🙂

Make sure to post an image of the emotion wheel on roll20 for the players: it really helps then identify what they are feeling.
