running dungeon world, wizard was new to the group & wanted to fill a bond, consulted a spirit re which pc has a great destiny? I asked the players who wants a great destiny? two immediately said Not it! but i still want them to have some depth of story, figured i can give those two some backstory moments, heroic opportunities or moral dilemas?

Sounds like your players aren’t playing in the spirit of the game. They’re heroes; they’ve all great destinies. The only other option is dying young.

Change the question. It’s not “who gets the destiny”, it’s “how do you feel when you’re told that you have this destiny?”
Rejection of the call is just a part of the journey. Everyone goes through denial…and that’s interesting.

I have an upcoming DW campaign set in LotFP’s Carcosa that I’m calling Refusal of the Call. All about that tone-setting. 😛
