Here is a link to Session 2 of Urban Shadows: The Violet Crown. In this one, we are introduced to a brand-new player character, the Fey drug dealer Frankie Jungman.

This was an extremely fun session, though content warnings for suicide and weird sex shit are probably in order.

Thanks to Phillip Wessels Jennifer Erixon steven watkins and Michael X. Heiligenstein for being awesome, GGG players!

SO iv been playing and running in a lot of Trad games.

SO iv been playing and running in a lot of Trad games.

SO iv been playing and running in a lot of Trad games. I thing iv noticed is that the PC no matter how long they have been working with each other never form in game friend ships. They work together and synergize in combat etc. But they don’t care about each other. A long time PC could die in in a gruesome way in front of the other PCs would be like “shit. We need a new front line fighter”

I want to pull in a mechanic that encourages PC to bond and give a fuck about each other. Any good games I could ripoff for this?

A Throne of Games?

Sunday we had the first session of Reign of Crows. That’s a “Game of Thrones” style Fate mini-campaign. Everyone plays members of a single noble family. Together they face threats and shifts in power. We had Sherri Stewart, David LaFreniere, Patrick Knowles, and Horst Wurst do the world building. While we’ve only played the first session, I want to post some of the material. I plan on coming back to look at all of this once we’ve done all four.

The crew of savvy Shadows takes on the Iruvian Consulate, stealing a new consul’s property and then selling it back to him in a fraught, but violence-free meeting.

We have a classic anime 1-2 of the (crafty, dangerous) old man and (exceedingly dangerous) young girl squaring off against their enemies (if they were genre-savvy they would get on the train and never come back!)

A big thanks to the players in this Blades in the Dark campaign: Sam Richardson (Locust), Andrew Shields (Paving), Robert Ruthven (Shrike) & Pawel Solowczuk (Hammer).

The crew will return in November I hope, maybe with some new members…

Heroes and Crystal Kingdoms

HaCK was written by Maria Rivera. It’s a JRPG video game re-skin for Slade Stolar’s The Indie Hack. It includes new rules, tags and equipment, as well as Archetypes and Jobs. What I love about this piece is the Archetypes and Jobs are very comprehensive in terms of the genre Maria is trying to emulate. The whole package is just really thoughtfully put together. It includes charming artwork by Alex Prinz and a cool, SNES-style layout by Oli Jeffery.

Trepallidic Parasites

This is a collection of Dungeon World elements written by Matt Stuart It’s about crystalline spores that take root in sentient hosts and create a wicked hivemind network from them. It includes a Danger focused on the hivemind, monsters, a custom move, and the (ghoulish, delightful) Parasite Host compendium class! It features a stunning piece of art by Vandel J. Arden.

Keepers of Antarra

This is an original story game by Steffie de Vaan In it, you play warlocks and demigods trying to shape Antarra, a land connected by magical crystal lines. You raise a tower at the crossroads of these crystal lines and then do your best to shape the land around it in your image. During the game, you produce a map of Antarra, which you can keep adding to in future games. The piece features a striking piece of artwork by Alex Prinz.

The Knights of the Faceted Order of Crystal

This is a short history and package of elements detailing a group of knights unerringly committed to upholding their own unforgiving, opaque code. It was written by Edward Hickcox and features some establishing questions, DW stats for the knights, a DW magic item, OSR stats for the Knights, and an OSR magic item. It features a jaw-dropping piece of art by Claudia Cangini (who I can’t tag for some reason).

Guardian Stones

The Guardian Stones are a set of powerful artifacts for Dungeon World. The piece was written by Andrew Shields, and details the process by which your character can become “attuned” to the Guardian stones, the powers granted by the various types of stone, and advanced moves you can take so long as you possess one. The piece features a trippy piece of artwork by Ray Otus

Three Dozen Rumors About Crystal Falls Township

This is a Twin Peaks-flavored miscellany, about the strange town of Crystal Falls. It is presented as a series of notebook entries, feverishly dictated by some unknown resident.

This month’s cover art is by Vandel J. Arden. Layout is by Oli Jeffery. Editing was done by David LaFreniere and myself.
