I’m not quite clear on how weapon harm works in AW: Fallen Empires. Is a weapon only deadly in the area specified (eg. in quarters, on the field), or in the area specified and larger? If it’s the latter, doesn’t that make a dagger a mechanically much better weapon than a bastard sword? cc Vincent Baker Meguey Baker

I read it as only at that specified range/condition. That’s the only way the dagger example makes sense to me.

Vincent Baker’s answer on the cross post:
“Be super reserved when it comes to letting any fictional details supersede your environment. Pretty much nothing should.
By the rules, when you’re in a wide open space, a bastard sword inflicts 3 harm and a dagger inflicts 2 harm, no matter what else is going on. When you’re in a narrow hallway, a dagger inflicts 3 harm and a sword only inflicts 2.
Things like getting inside someone’s guard with your dagger or using your bastard sword to stand them off in a hallway are covered by the results of the moves, like inflicting terrible harm or suffering little harm.”
