I’m having a bit of a hard time wrapping my head around this archetype other than as the character who is in over their head. The starting Debts will integrate them, it’s not up to you to do that.
As for buttons to push on, each playbook’s corruption moves are where to go for that. The Aware needs “mortal responsibilities” to pull them away from the supernatural. Starbucks called and needs them to work a shift, but other PCs are hunting a sewer lizardman.
It’s also important to discuss what Let It Out looks like with the Aware. What do they have inside them that they can let out? Humanity? Kindness? Something darker?
The Aware is a Xander from Buffy or a Kinzie from Lost Girl.

I don’t think the Aware is in over their head. I think the Aware is in it and they get it. They’re investigators of the unnatural by nature, because their moves function off of snooping and getting into trouble. They’re also fully aware of how debts function, because they’re debt machines.
The Aware is a chance to keep the game still grounded in mortality and make mortality faction do something other than be a victim. The Aware isn’t a victim, unlike the Mortal playbook in Monsterhearts. This isn’t a mortal grown up. This is someone who’s actively involved in the supernatural world and moving and shaking just like everyone else.
I’ve played the Aware multiple times. They literally are politic forcing debt machines that can cause big rifts and fights by who they know and who they call in favours on. Remember that they help people. Their last question is “what are you investigating currently?” That question should guide you. Additionally, make people turn to them for arbitration, mystery solving, and for helping the supernatural out when a supernatural couldn’t do a good job, aka, doing mortal things.

You know, I just realized that there is a question that we should be asking after character creation that I think solves your problem. Ask the player “what are you interested about your character?” That should tell you exactly what their character is all about.

Kate Bullock That is some good advice and I understand mechanically how that works but I don’t understand the fictional positioning where that makes sense. I guess the implicit power of the Aware is something like being able to bring mortal organizations together in numbers against supernatural groups. Being in the know is powerful but it’s not enough to stay on top by itself.
