Top 1 or 2 Fiasco Playsets for people who aren’t nerds. Not just not-gaming-nerds, but not really into any nerdist pop culture. So fantasy tropes, star wars tropes, star trek tropes, etc won’t work.
They like literature. And Coen Bros movies and Improv apparently (that’s how I sold this thing – Improv and Coen Bros).
Suggestions?
I think the standard suburban playset still works best.

My mom and sisters LOVED Hollywood Wives. We still talk about that session years later.

The Manna Hotel and Flyover playsets are great ones for Coen Bros. fans.

Last Frontier is another good one.

If they do noir or hard-boiled detectives, Chris Bennet’s Los Angeles 1936 is a fun playset as well.

If I recall, I think I saw a Sharknado around. How would that go? 😉

I used “Touring Rock Band” for that purpose. It became a hysterical drug-soaked bloodbath.

As If that might work, some musicians who may have been wannabes in the past in the group.

Steve Segedy’s Vegas playset in the Fiasco Companion is great. Chock full of well known tropes, great hooks in the tables and a lot of different directions it can go (and go wrong)
It’s my go to intro to Fiasco playset.

There is one set in a small town. I don’t know the name of it but I think it could be very Cohen Bros.

Three of the basic playsets (“Main Street,” “Boomtown,” “Tales From Suburbia”) are all great for the uninitiated and non-gamers. Of the tons of other playsets we’ve tried, Flyover and Town & Gown have both reliably delivered the goods.
EDIT: My top 2 are Tales From Suburbia and Flyover.

Flyover playset rocks for this.

Thanks guys! We played Main Street (in a small southern town) and it was amazing as always. My spiel about not protecting your character worked out great.
But I’m going to print up Flyover and Vegas to join the basic book Playsets and Town &Gown. And the rock band one.

Seconding Manna Hotel though that also has a Twin Peaksy vibe.

Maybe try Regina’s Wedding as well?
(Speaking of literature, I did an Iliad-inspired one; if that kind of thing floats your boat)
