So one of my great joys in life is abusing the privileges of Gauntlet membership to make crowdsourcing posts:
There is a thing that inhabits the World of Dreams. It can take many forms. It sends scary dreams to children and only the Dreamers (who know how to Control the Dream) can stop it.
What is it called?

Michael G. Barford It is very much in its infancy. I conceptualized the game yesterday and drafted alpha rules last night. But I’ll let you know if it turns into anything. The steps between “I made a thing” and “people can get a thing” baffle me.

Somewhere in there is “some people play the thing” and I would enjoy being part of that!

Zivawta.
Russian; the yawnling. He is accompanied on his nightly journeys by Drimawta, as they proceed on foot from home to home, peering through windows and keyholes to ensure all kids within are asleep. If the kids aren’t, they press their faces to the doors and start to whisper, “Into bed… fast as you can…”
The ones who don’t listen – they belong to Zivawta.
(This is a lullaby I grew up on.)

Wild Nightshade
Taking the idea from weeds, where the seeds of fear and doubt get planted and take root and grow into nightmares.

For anyone interested, I went with the Wim, a respelling of the suggestion from Ferrell Riley. It spoke to me for some reason. I think because it gives the impression that this is more of a whimsical trickster rather than some terrifying part of the subconscious. That is an important message that I’m trying to get across to the kids that will (hopefully) someday play this game. It is about overcoming the power that nightmares have on us. That said, if this project ever gets to the point where I’m translating it into other languages, some of these are fantastic.
