It’s a new episode of Pocket-Sized Play, the Gauntlet’s premiere actual play podcast, and we play a cyberpunk mission in Hamish Cameron’s The Sprawl!
Folks on G+ had been asking for AP of this awesome game, so settle in for an entire self-contained mission that (countdown) clocks in at just under an hour.
Big thanks to special guest Pat Perkins, and props as always to Timothy Bennett and Tor Droplets.

Also, shoutout to Jason Cordova for the best-worst pun about Han the gang leader in the timecodes. A low blow, Cordova. 🙂

This one’s double-length, so make sure you grab some fried tofu and a Purple Monkey before sitting down for a listen 😉

Guys, this was a really great episode. I was riveted.
I’m one of those people who has never been into AP. Most AP podcasts are very poorly produced (Hello dice being rolled directly into the mic! Hello 2 hours of meaningless table banter and rules arbitration!). The ones that are well-produced also tend to be comic or gonzo in nature, and don’t really give you a good sense of how the game works at the table.
You guys are hitting a really sweet spot for me here. You’re taking your game and your story seriously, with just enough natural humor and banter to avoid being dry.
I’d love to see how the format develops over time. Keep up the good work!

Thank you, Jason Cordova! This one took me scheduling two play sessions while we all had tech issues, laser-focused planning, and the most editing hours I’ve put in yet. 😀 But it was all worth it!

Tim B I think including the entire mission was the right move. To me, this 58 minutes is an amazing, complete example of how The Sprawl works (and not that Hamish Cameron needs it, but it would be a great promotional tool for the game). If you had only done up to the Legwork Phase in order to keep it to 30 minutes, I think you would have been doing both the game and the AP a disservice. Good call.

I actually lost power because of a storm during the second session but I will now pretend it was ChromeFox that hacked my system.

Tim B I agree with everything Jason Cordova has said. I’m about to start Sprawl with my “new to rpgs” group after a lengthy spell of OSR (DCC). I shared a few AP vids but they are hours and hours of unedited play. This is one hour of perfectly distilled game for them. Thanks and much respect for what must have been a mighty editing job.

Also, how come no one noticed “Knock shot first” in the time codes?

Great, kid. Don’t get Knocky.
I’m going to listen on the drive to the DW game tonight.

I haven’t listened yet but am terribly excited. Jason Cordova are you familiar with Friends at the Table? They run an extremely well-produced and enjoyable AP podcast with none of the offending dice-into-mic clatter, only the necessary amount of rules-arbitration, and a minimum of inside jokes.
The first season of FatT was pure DW; the second season is more cyberpunk and started with a mash of Tech Noir (I think?) and Kingdom but evolved into “The Sprawl” around episode 10. Highly recommended.

Matthew G. We’ve definitely talked FatT on the back channels! It’s not my style but definitely sets a bar for editing and fan base. I wanted an AP podcast that’s a bit easier to pick up (pocket-sized!). 🙂

I’m away from my rig right now, but based on the feedback here, I’ll listen and probably write up a post about this on ardens.org when I’m back. Thanks for making this!

I listened to this earlier this week, after FINALLY having read through all of The Sprawl. EXCELLENT episode. Very evocative. Everyone was on point here. I whole-heartedly agree with the decision to include the entire mission in the episode. It’s certainly in the spirit of the game.
I now have a big problem, though…
I want to play The Sprawl with Tim B Pat Perkins Tor Droplets and Timothy Bennet!! 😀
