Last night, The Gauntlet: Rubber City (which is located in Akron, OH) played our second session of Dungeon World. The party passed through the Obsidian Gate, navigated The Maze, outsmarted some kobalds and fire beetles (not a particularly hard thing to do), and convinced the Obsidian Golem to restart a massive Newton’s Cradle.
Continuing the theme of me trying to channel Jason Cordova, I included both his fantastic labyrinth move and the Vainglorious Boots.
Thanks to Simon Hunt and Greg Lanum for showing up and roleplaying your hearts out. (Sorry about your character, Greg. I’m sure she’s happier beyond the black gate anyway.)
I love the Vainglorious Boots! One of my favorite items.

I made the characters competitively compliment them to see whose feet would be graced. It went on for a good fifteen minutes and was hilarious.

Oh, I am going to introduce my players to the Vainglorious Boots!

Edward Hickcox, you should. Jason Cordova, mind posting the text for those bad boys?

When you begin each day by putting on the boots and paying them a compliment (e.g. “Your leather is looking particularly supple today!”) roll+CHA. *On a 10+, hold three. *On a 7-9, hold one. Spend hold one-for-one for the following:
-The boots give you cat-like reflexes. +1 forward to Defy Danger: DEX.
-The boots allow you to perform a single jump as high as 20 feet in the air.
-The boots allow you to run as fast as a horse for a short distance.
The hold lasts until the next morning or until you Make Camp, whichever comes first. *On a 6-, the boots will cause you to stumble or hesitate at the worst possible moment. Under this circumstance, the boots cannot be removed until the next morning or until you Make Camp, whichever comes first.
Full disclosure: I can’t remember if I made this or not. I think I did, but it’s been ages ago.
