So a funny thing happened. The Final Girl was selling maybe one copy every couple months. I had some stuff happen in my life that made fulfillment hard so I said, aw, I’ll pull the plug on this thing.
Then this podcast called The Gauntlet started playing it. It seemed like within a week of me doing this. All of a sudden I’m getting a ton of emails asking for it. And The Gauntlet keeps playing it and people keep getting more interested.
Well you won, Gauntlet! You wore me down! You and your damn enthusiasm and kind words about my game have broken me! It’s up on DriveThruRPG.
I hope you don’t mind this crass commercialism but this seems like the best way to get the word out to people who have been hassling me the most.
And to quit screwing around, thank you Gauntlet for playing my game and talking about it. I just heard it described elsewhere as “long-celebrated” and I think the ones who have been doing the long-celebrating is you and your community. I’m really grateful.

That’s super-nice of you to say, Bret. Thanks!
EDIT to spell your name correctly.

Dude, your game is one of my fav to pull out when I need something out on the table. I’m glad to see it back! And I’m glad we helped bring it back too!

Oh man, if you did a KS for The Final Girl, I’d give you so many American dollars.

Hold onto those American dollars for things you need like gasoline and cheeseburgers.
There is stuff in the works but it’s so, so nebulous right now I shouldn’t even hint at it because it may never happen.
If it does happen The Gauntlet will be the first to know.

We’ve already hacked it to be about a Japanese feudal lord trying to marry off his most worthless child. Stretch Goal unlocked!

Such good news. Now I don’t have to insert an awkward caveat when recommending it to people.

Also, I want to apologize to anyone who tried to contact me on G+ WAAAY back in the day about it (I just saw some old posts about it). I had +notificationsĀ turned off for anyone I didn’t have circled because I was being harassed by a nameless evil and its minions on G+ and it was best for my sanity. I was not deliberately ignoring, I just had no idea.
I was also having a tumor removed when I hit the switch to SHUT IT ALL DOWN and I’m bummed that the general impression everyone had was that IĀ was a big jerk who didn’tĀ give a shit about people wanting to play my game and not that I had stuff going on and limited whatever to cope with it. Game designers areĀ human beingsĀ too, and while I’m not a super private person I didn’t want to be public and loud about my illness on the internet so I had to deflect with, “Sorry it’s not for sale,” when people asked. I’m not mad or anything but if I can impart a lesson on anyone please try to give people the benefit of the doubt about things like this.

The length time it took to put this on DriveThru was all me though. If I were a Final Girl character I’d be the Lazy Game Designer.

Bret Gillan here’s hoping you are doing much better now, and that all these happy people help make tomorrow better!

Bret Gillanā you made a game that brings people together and gives them happiness for a few hours while they are playing it. We live in a fast, loud and largely disconnected world. Sitting down with friends, either old or possibly new, and having a few hours where you can forget about the world and all the stress that can go with it, is valuable. Bringing people together and building memories, that’s what your game does, that’s why game design matters.
Thank you for making that possible. Games are more than thier components, they are made of memories and human connection. They matter, and those that create them matter.
