I know Rifts is a shitshow in almost every way, but occasionally I say to myself “Man, I wish I could play Rifts with a more modern rule set.”

I was kinda hoping that The Strange would be a sleeker, better version of rifts….in the end, it was just a worse version of Numenera (to me, at least).

Like most RPGs, it’s an amazing idea wrapped in the traumatizing insanity of pre90s gaming.

I was just thinking about Palladium’s house system thanks to TMNT and Other Strangeness.
Was thinking of ways to potentially hack mutant adventures to a AW or DW framework.

Like Torg or Dream Park they could all do with a rules a reboot…

isn’t savage worlds adapting rifts to their rule set?

I think I was traumatized playing Rifts with Palladium rules for as long as I did in high school that it has been ruined for me, sadly. There are LOTS of folks porting stuff over and I seem to remember a Cortex+ hack. You could probably run it with Heany other game that uses narrative stats (PDQ would work well, methinks, as would the above-mentioned Cortex+).
Screw it. Run it in Fiasco. It’s a bad day when your Glitter Boy gets hooked on coke you sold him to pay off a debt you had and tries to shoot an apple off your Rogue Scholar’s head.

Sometime this year PEG should be doing a kickstarter campaign for a Savage Worlds version of Rifts.

But considering Rifts whole idea is there’s a rift for anything is there any reason you couldn’t run it in just about any rules light universal system? (I don’t know a whole lot about rifts.)

I did it in Risus before. The issues were that one of the players was not familiar with Rifts and thus made a character totally inappropriate for the game, and the other was I had too much beer to drink while running the game.

Breachworld is pretty Rift-tastic, and it uses the Mini-6 system, which isn’t half bad.

Rifts was one of the first RPGs I ever bought because I have a thing for multiverse stuff, but I just couldn’t make sense of the ruleset.

Is it safe to say we are riffing on it now? :V

RIFTS could be done in FATE ACCELERATED very easily. (I prefer Accelerated to Core because it feels more narrative driven ) I want to convert NightBane to FA.

I think the Savage Worlds version will appeal to a lot of people. But I would enjoy it more with Fate. If it were me, I’d start with something like Atomic Robo and hack in the rest.

We’re starting a TMNT game tonight been about 25 years between drinks. We’ll see how it holds up.

wait, 25 years between each drink, or does 25 years pass with each drink?
that’d be an interesting mechanic….

David Schirduan You aren’t kidding about that. The artwork is good, but…that’s it.
Nicholas Hopkins that is so funny. I love it. Gonna make a playset for that!
Jim Miller I made a mini adventure using FAE and Rifts Navy, and it worked just fine. I didn’t worry about SDC and MDC and all those tables! Mostly about the story.
I love the settings in Rifts and the Palladium Fantasy. I used Dungeon World to run a short TMNT one shot and Masters of UmDaar (FAE) to run a short Usagi Yojimbo one shot which, in retrospect worked way better for a TMNT setting since it features a random mutation system – for free! Sorry, you’ll have to provide your own pizza.

Don’t even get me started on the Cypher System core book, Rocky Perez and David Schirduan .

Just by thinking about this topic, your head will soon receive a Cease-and-Desist letter from KS and company…

Update on the TMNT game – Was a blast. Made characters by the book but then we just winged (wung?) it, on skills, combat etc. Worked very well as rules ultralite. Might dig into the system proper a bit deeper next week. Chargen was like coming home though. I should do a group sketch of the PCs, a very funny bunch.
