I am frantically trying to figure out every cool and completely amazing thing The Gauntlet is going to do in 2016.

I am frantically trying to figure out every cool and completely amazing thing The Gauntlet is going to do in 2016. The most important thing to me, big picture-wise, is expanding the number of voices associated with The Gauntlet. I have always been most closely associated with everything we do, but I think it’s time to get past that and really open-up the community.

I think the addition of Doyle Tavener’s OSR Tuesday and Richard Rogers  joining the podcast are a step in the right direction, but I would love to see, for example, weekly or bi-weekly spinoff podcasts (say, 20-30 minutes in length), short essays on different gaming topics, and people taking charge of the various online game nights.

Anyway, I welcome your thoughts, either in the comments below, or privately via Hangouts.

  1. I’m incredibly excited to be podcasting again! Jason and Dan are wonderful to work with, and Steve is a really smart fellow, too, hope to be on more shows with him (Steve is my favorite so far because he said my son was “weapons grade adorable”). I’ve been a fan of the show since Paul Czege put it on my radar and I’m committed to helping continue the thoughtful and genial discussion of playing games.

I’m currently prepping a play-by-post game for the Gauntlet Hangout community. It’ll be a game of Apocalypse World  using the 2nd edition preview rules and will launch it in the next month.

In the new year I hope to GM a few Hangout games for the Gauntlet Hangouts Community.

  3. Richard Rogers The PbP thing is going to be so cool! I can’t wait until that is rolled out.

And it has been great having you on the cast! You bring a perspective to the proceedings I really enjoy. On a somewhat related note, I am routinely reminded (last night, for example) I like having a woman’s voice on the podcast, too. That is something we need to work on…

  5. I’d like to develop a little UK contingent to add to the table. I need to ramp up my game exposure by organising a wider variety stuff via gauntlet hangouts before I can add to the conversation though. I’m pretty comfortable playing over the medium now and would like to see what works and what doesn’t. I WILL get a game of Jason Cordova dungeon world at some point and I’d like to see if my dungeon world and his can somehow collide using the guild hq idea.

  7. Eadwin Tomlinson 2016 will be the year of Gauntlet UK. It’s a natural fit, really. Our podcast was originally inspired by The Twitching Curtain (a short-lived UK cast) and we play and talk about lots of games written by British authors.

  9. Daniel Fowler For Gauntlet UK, I think simply changing the navy blue to a union jack might work. There is no Gauntlet NJ, as such, so probably no need to worry about that.

  11. Eadwin Tomlinson Isa Wills  I think the best way for us to proceed with Gauntlet UK is to get one or two games going per week, either FtF or on Gauntlet Hangouts, and then meeting every two weeks over Hangouts for a 20-30 minute podcast to discuss the games played. I’m happy to join you for either or both of those endeavors, at least until things are up and running. We (meaning Daniel Lewis, Richard Rogers and myself) can share our podcast production workflow with you. I’m just the content guy, but my comrades have a good system for actually assembling the audio.

But first things first: See how organizing games under the Gauntlet UK banner goes through, say, December. If you have success with that, then I think adding the podcast in January or February is a completely reasonable goal. That would make three Gauntlet podcasts (the main cast, plus our DW mini-cast and Gauntlet UK).

But getting games on the calendar is critical. If you can find a consistent time/day of the week, all the better.
