  1. My list would be pretty similar to David’s so I’ll just tack an extra 5 on:

    Fiasco

    Archipelago

    Goblin Quest

    Dance of the Damned

The Committee for the Exploration of Mysteries

  3. The Final Girl

    The Society of Dreamers

    Cheat Your Own Adventure

    The Dance of the Damned

Lasers & Feelings (it’s not GM-less as written, but works beautifully with a rotating GM).

  4. The Final Girl

    The Society of Dreamers

    Cheat Your Own Adventure

    The Dance of the Damned

  5. In no particular order:

    Fiasco

    Society of Dreamers

    The Final Girl

    Microscope and close cousin Kaleidoscope

and fifth would be something like A Taste for Murder, The Committee for the Exploration of Mysteries, Cheat Your Own Adventure, or The Extraordinary Adventures of Baron Munchausen.

  7. A lot of love for Microscope in this thread. I like it, too, but I’d be curious to find out what people think of the Scenes. We always have a lot of trouble with them.

  9. It really helps to have very flexible players, and a goal that can resolve with action and without characters actually having to change in the scene. I found to my dismay that a courtroom scene didn’t play well and took a lot of the oomph out of the players.

  11. Stephanie Bryant That seems right. I have found when the Scenes go long, or require some resolution that isn’t action-based, it tends to drain the energy out of an otherwise fun game.

I definitely like the idea behind the Scenes, but they have always come off as very jarring in a game that is mostly not about actual roleplaying. Kaleidoscope makes the case to me. That’s a hack of Microscope that (among other things) dispenses with that third, RP tier, and it works great. You don’t miss it at all.

  13. Jason Cordova I think we’ve talked about this before, but yeah, I’m with you.  Never had a scene in Microscope go smoothly.  Hope to stick to dictated scenes next time I play.

Eadwin Tomlinson Sadly, the author isn’t selling The Final Girl anymore.  Not sure about the reason.

  15. I didn’t have the list of games I’ve played when I originally posted, so now that I’m home, here are a few others:

    Grey Ranks

    Hot Guys Making Out

    Kagematsu

    Polaris

(My top 5 is really more of a top 4 and then a bunch I can’t decide between.)
