Yet another PbtA game. Not sure if it is worth a fig but it looked amusing enough.

I’m not sure if I should be sharing these here or not frankly (SPAM?). If so, perhaps we can create a new section for such things so they don’t clutter the main space (suck as “Kickstarters” or something of that ilk)? If the preference is to avoid doing so altogether, just let me know.

  1. Hmm, I had a quick scan through, the setting is neat but I can’t help but feel like it seems a bit…half-baked? A lot of basic moves, but it doesn’t have nearly as strong a direction as Apocalypse World.

  3. Sean Smith I’m not a native member of the community, but FWIW it does seem these days as if every other game is an ‘AW hack’, by which I suspect many of the designers hope to get reflected glory – why can’t they just say ‘This is a game that happens to use the AW engine (as opposed to FATE Core, Ubiquity, PDQ or whatever)’? So I’d suggest a separate category for them so they don’t clutter up the wall. Also, it would make it easier for folks to search for them if they were specifically looking for that type of game.

But, as I say, I’m not a full community member, so take all that with as much salt as you like 😀

  5. I haven’t really looked at this one yet, but I have noticed a worrisome trend of people Kickstarting PbtA games when it’s pretty clear they haven’t actually played many PbtA games. There’s something of a cash grab going on with some of these games.

  7. I agree that many fall flat. There is most certainly the cash grab problem as well. Some are no brainers, others, well, a bit more of a gamble. I have a monthly budget for Kickstarter so I probably take more chances then others might. I have still yet to receive many of these PbtA games I kickstarted so hard to say how burned I will be in the end 🙂

All that said, I’m still not sure about this one. I like the setting enough that if it is half-way decent I can probably use the bits I like and scratch the rest.

  9. Oh, this one may be fine – I haven’t taken a hard look at it yet. It appears to use an a la carte character creation system, which I don’t normally like in PbtA games, since I think the highly-specific playbooks of, say, AW or MH, create a more disciplined narrative. But who knows? It could be cool.

  11. The character creation system does look cool! I love the bit where you get to pick different rooms for the group’s spaceship. The core of the game feels a bit…flat to me. That’s my suspicion.

  13. Yet another PbtA game kickstarter^^

But… can I ignore a game where you can gain Xp by :

_ Kill someone who really deserves it , Engage in lavish hedonism and carousing, Give a command that puts people’s lives at risk, Be subjected to the effects of Cramped Quarters, Spread a truth or a lie_

I love when a tiny mechanic can push the fiction in the right tone. Like Night Witches Marks

    (Xcuse my rusty english)
