I would love to see them build this out in future years, but for now it is a pretty weak offering. First of all, I’m not even sure Reaper Minis counts as ‘indie’ anymore. As for the other vendors (all four of them), they are not anyone the prevailing indie gaming scene would recognize. Which, I suppose, makes them hyper-indie (or something). I know Ferrell Riley was trying to get the organizers to invite some more recognizable people from the scene, which is a worthy goal, but I have a hard time imagining it happening.
There are a fair number of people in the Gauntlet who helped organize Comicpalooza, and I hate taking a dump on it because of that, but the gaming SUUUUCKS. It always has!
For roleplaying games in particular, the energy and vibrancy and innovation is taking place in the story game and OSR communities. That’s where all the passion is. That’s where the hobby is being remade for the future. And it’s why Comicpalooza continues to disappoint on this front. There are several Cons with strong representation from non-traditional gaming communities. I don’t think it’s some impossible challenge.

I think it is inevitable. To be on the leading edge means others must catch up.

Yeah. I swung by Gen Pop gaming and it looked depressing. I guess I’ll have to get off my duff and run something NOT PFS at OwlCon and CP. Diversity Now!
