I’m a warrior seeking peace and an end to bloodshed. I’m on

pilgrimage to the Temple to No Gods in the distant City of Gulls. My pilgrimage has brought me to the desert of spires, inhabited by the murder cult of the ungod of spiders. My goal is to pass safely through and continue my pilgrimage.

I have the summoning-name of a ghost burned into my memory, and vast and deadly patience.

I’ve been walking for days and I am near the tallest spires in the middle of the desert.

Something warns me of

approaching danger. What warns me? Anyone should answer.

You, my friends online, play the world. Your goal is to see me to my doom, instead of safely on my way. You’re allowed only to directly answer my direct questions, though, so you might not be able to do it.

The rules: 1. Only answer my questions. 2. If you don’t already know the answer, make something up. 3. Keep your answers short. 4. If your answer’s disruptive, I’m allowed to delete it. 5. Otherwise, I have to go with the first answer somebody gives. I’ll +1 it. 6. You may subscribe to this thread if you like. Please use the sentence ‘no gods watch over you’ to do so.

  1. This is the first game of “The Sundered Land”, Vincent Baker’s new series of small games.  I’ve got some more rules to follow on my end, but otherwise the post contains everything anyone else needs to participate!

  3. I pull the hood of my traveling cloak up around my neck and adjust the straps of my pack.  I scan the spires around me.  Do I feel watched?

    Anyone can answer.

  5. I shrug off the gaze of the eagles with an only slightly uneasy feeling and begin to pick my way up the difficult path into the spine of the desert to continue on my way. As I scramble over loose stones and into the eerie rock formations, I look out for signs of the spider cult.

Do I see any signs? Anyone can answer.

  7. Yes you see many signs and you continue the journey. However as you continue the signs also seem to glow omniously. Some spiders also are around these signs. They look at you with a hungry look.

  9. yes you notice a cave opening but if u enter you will be away from the path that you are on, but you may find something of use for your quest…or you may find something worse.

  11. I eye the spiders warily, but I am loathe to abandon the most direct path to my destination: what’s my best escape route, if any?

  13. The rock formations surrounding your path are covered in spikes and razor sharp edges.  It would be impossible to climb over them without being shredded.  You will have to take your chances with the spiders to continue this way.

  15. Your path is narrow and the jagged formations limit your view of what is ahead. You think you see a large boulder broad enough to hide you from view ten yards away, but you can’t be sure.

  17. [Okay guys, at this point I get to roll some dice! It’s based on the Apocalypse World spread of 2-6 bad, 7-9 okay, and 10+ good, only instead of dictating specific results or options, it gives me questions that make it easier or harder to get out of the danger I’m in]

They might kill me here.  I utter the summoning name of the terrible ghost I encountered and bound in the wars, loosing it once more into the world. Before its name fades from my mind like a dying ember,  I command it to wither the spiders. Do I have a chance to get away?

    Anyone can answer.

  19. I might be able to overpower it.  I quickly scratch a sign of banishment into the sand of the path and call out words of power to sever the ghost’s tie to the land of the living.  Is it banished?

    Anyone can answer.

  21. Soon I reach the end of the desert of spires and I’m happy to put it behind me. The End

And that’s a game! It was fun, but y’all need to be harsher next time! You went way too easy on my poor doomed pilgrim 🙂
