I’m a little out-of-sorts from heavy doses of codeine and A Song of Ice & Fire fan theories (they should really warn you about mixing the two). I’m pulling myself away, and instead wondering whether there is any ASoIF gay slash fic. I’m certain there is, but I don’t want to get flagged by the FBI as some sort of social degenerate who likes thinking about fictional characters getting it on. So, instead, I shall muse here about my ideal couplings . . .
-Jaime Lannister plus anyone else. In this one, Jaime has just returned from a battle, and the other person is there to pour him a glass of wine, draw him a hot bath, and remove his armor gently and with erotic subtext. It proceeds with the other person giving Jaime a bath, drying him off when it’s over, and dressing him for bed. The entire time, Jaime doesn’t say a single word; barely acknowledging the other person. Not until the very end, that is, when, after being tucked into bed, he turns to the other person and says “A Lannister always pays his debts.”
-Tywin Lannister and Ned Stark, engaging in some sort of psychosexual daddy/power thing. Their respective Maesters are also present, who occasionally chime-in with sage observations and wise council, and look at each other and nod approvingly.
-Robb Stark and Jon Snow. In this one, they’re in a plain stone room, sitting in chairs, facing Catelyn Stark, who is in the role of an Anne Robinson-style quiz mistress. Catelyn quizzes the lads one-by-one on various trivial matters related to the realm, like what is the symbol of House Such-and Such and who was killed in the Third War of Farfanel, or whatever. Whenever one of them gets one wrong, Catelyn screams at him “You are not my son!” and the other one has to give him a spanking.

I have moved on from the online shopping phase of my illness (I think I accidentally deleted the post from earlier), and solidly into the Song of Ice and Fire reddit fan theories phase. This will probably take awhile.
Here’s one I like: Jojen Reed is actually Howland Reed. Boom! I just blew your mind, didn’t I?

I’ve been laid-up with a fever all weekend; been binge-watching a couple of shows on Netflix (their new one, Narcos, is excellent). Now I’m moving into the online shopping phase of my illness. Any suggestions for RPG stuff to pick up?

Some pics from our first session of Urban Shadows. We’ll have more to say about the mechanics on next week’s podcast, but I wanted to comment on an aspect of the game I’m really loving so far, which is how the city you set your game in becomes a sort-of character all its own.
We set our game in Austin, TX (the 11th largest city in the States, we were surprised to learn), and so our game was filled with tons of monster-themed Austinisms. One of our characters is a vampire running an app start-up called Night Noms, which helps other vamps find drunk people to feast on; there is a half-naked, homeless wizard on a fixie named Thermos H. Christ; one of our supernatural big bads is basically Michael Dell; and there is a vibrating black obelisk in the basement of the Texas History Museum. It is super-fun, especially if you have any familiarity with Austin.

An update on Gauntlet Hangouts . . .
An update on Gauntlet Hangouts . . .
I’m happy with how things are progressing on Gauntlet Hangouts. We presently have nine upcoming events on the calendar. All but one of them are full. Some more TGI Thursday and Story Game Sunday are going up soon. We’re also doing a roundtable discussion Hangout called What is a D6?, so be on the lookout for that. I’m thinking late-September.
For our UK friends (Eadwin Tomlinson, Isa Wills, one or two others), what days/times work well for you? I’d like to find a way to get you in more games.
Play by Post still isn’t a thing yet. I’m not sure when it will be (if ever), but I’m looking into options. What I really need is for someone to be in charge of it. Like, Gauntlet in charge of it. In other words, no dicking around with it. Execution is king!
A number of people have asked if we are going to start recording games. It is a good question. I think the answer is ‘yes,’ but I need to figure out how it works. There is also a concern about self-censorship, but we can cross that bridge on a game-by-game basis. For example, I love The Final Girl, but I’m not sure I want a recording of how we play it to exist on the Internet.
We just finished recording an interview with one of our favorite game designers.
We just finished recording an interview with one of our favorite game designers. He was completely delightful. If I could miniaturize him and put him on my shelf, I would do so without reservation.
