Patreon Pledge Levels (Subject to Change) – Feedback Welcome

We’ll be launching the Gauntlet’s Patreon very soon, and I wanted to give everyone in the community a preview of the pledge levels. Feedback is welcome.

Podcast Patron ($2 per month)

To show our appreciation, you’ll get a special shout-out on our G+ community page, as well as access to our Patreon feed. The Patreon feed includes exclusive podcast episodes, access to Jason’s game prep notes, and much more!

Codex Patron ($4 per month)

In addition to the rewards from Podcast Patron, you will receive a PDF of our monthly RPG fanzine, Codex!

Hangouts Patron ($5 per month; limited to 50 patrons)

In addition to the rewards from Codex Patron, you will get RSVP priority for online games organized through Gauntlet Hangouts. Here’s how it works: during the first week a game is on the calendar, only Hangouts Patrons can RSVP. After that week is over, the RSVPs open up for all Gauntlet community members.

RSVP priority begins with games scheduled for January 2017. Only 50 of these spots will be available through calendar year 2017.

Game Designer Patron ($10 per month; limited to 3 patrons)

In addition to the rewards at Hangouts Patron,  you will be entitled to a monthly, 30-minute video call with community organizer and podcast host Jason Cordova to discuss a game project you are working on. In preparation for this call, Jason will read the current draft of your game, and be ready to discuss the areas you want feedback on.

Jason organizes hundreds of games each year, plays with a huge number of people, and brings unique, valuable insight into what makes a game work at the table. If you want regular, highly informed, incisive feedback on your game project, this is a terrific reward level to choose.

+1 Forward Sponsor ($25 per month; limited to 1 patron)

This is a sponsorship level for +1 Forward. For your support, we will do a short promotional spot for your company or product on each new episode of +1 Forward, as well as give you a sidebar advertisement on our website.

Discern Realities Sponsor ($25 per month; limited to 1 patron)

This is a sponsorship level for Discern Realities. For your support, we will do a short promotional spot for your company or product on each new episode of the Discern Realities, as well as give you a sidebar advertisement on our website.

The Gauntlet Podcast Sponsor ($35 per month; limited to 1 patron)

This is a sponsorship level for The Gauntlet Podcast. For your support, we will do a short promotional spot for your company or product on each new episode of the Gauntlet Podcast, as well as give you a small sidebar advertisement on our website.

Wes Otis  is running a KS for his Rothaen setting (for Dungeon World, specifically). I’ve played in his house campaign in this world, first falling in love with his audio stuff (of which he’s had a few successful kickstarters), and know him as a dope GM. I recommend a looksie!

A few days ago I ran a session that just fell flat and I decided to end it prematurely. We were all really tired and playing a new game for the first time, so even though I failed it, I didn’t feel that bad.

I can only remember one other session where this happened in the last two years, but I do remember several times when we should have at least taken a break to talk about why things didn’t work out and how to do better, but we suffered through instead.

Have you had any relevant experiences lately? A session that dragged on forever and everyone hated it, or maybe a time when you actually talked about it and saved yourselves from awkwardness and boredom?

I’m reminded again and again how being open about how you feel is so worth it, but I never seem to learn.

The solution is obviously better communication, but can you think of concrete advice or rituals that might help us avoid the Abilene paradox*?

The system looks cool and I love the way it deals with treasure and gear. But …. It is Overtly sexist and some what racist. While it fits with the Conan/Sword and Sorcery / Robert E. Howard its still a lil off putting. How do you get the feels of the setting and the genre with out being a sexist asshole?

My plan is just to have an equal number of scantly clad clingy useless women as men. Same with shirtless muscle clad women and men with giant swords. So just sexually objectify equally.

Whatcha think?

This evening my 2 year old daughter said she wanted to play “Shooter game.” Turns out she meant the Dungeon World game she hears my sons play. Thus began the adventures of Doctor Booboo 9000, human cleric. Treating every player move as a 7-9, she managed to make a giant bug friend, travel into a forest, save a terrified boy from a large snake, heal the boy, and get a hug as thanks.

Our hobby is the best.

Halloween Game Announcements

Every year I try to outdo myself when it comes to scheduling special games for Halloween. I’m like that guy whose haunted house keeps getting more and more elaborate.

Here is what I have for this year: over the course of Halloween weekend (Friday – Monday), we’re going to use The Final Girl and Cheat Your Own Adventure to tell the complete, six-part saga of a horror movie franchise called Dia De Los Muertos. Here is a summary of each film in the franchise:

Dia De Los Muertos

It’s the end of the semester, and the seniors of Santa Juanita High are celebrating by throwing a bitchin’ Mexican party. Little do they know, there’s a killer in their midst, and he’s thirsty for more than margaritas. He’s thirsty…for blood!

Can these hot, horny teens survive este noche de terror?

Dia De Los Muertos 2: Revenge of Pork Face

This film picks-up immediately after the events of the first Dia De Los Muertos.

The noche de terror continues as Pork Face brutalizes the citizens of the sleepy, semi-rural town of Santa Juanita.

Dia De Los Muertos 3: Season of the Bruja

A talented dancer has been accepted to a school for gifted young women. What will she do when she discovers the school’s true purpose: to find a suitable bride for the Dark Lord Satan?

Dia De Los Muertos 4: Return of Pork Face

A young boy gifted with psychic powers must explore his family’s past, and learn the truth of his connection to the legendary killer Pork Face.

Dia De Los Muertos 5: Noche De Terror

A screenwriter has been asked to deliver a script for a new entry in the legendary Dia De Los Muertos horror franchise. But can he keep himself together as the line between fantasy and reality begin to blur?

Dia De Los Muertos 6: Alien vs. Pork Face

Get ready for Pork Face…in space! The crew of the Noche have taken on some very unfortunate cargo. Can they survive a battle between two of cinema’s most terrifying monsters?

You can attend any or all sessions.
